Forstman Software ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Kitchen Provision mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Kitchen Provision.
By using Kitchen Provision, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple user ID and, on first sign-in only, your name and email address (if you choose to share them). We use this to create and maintain your account.
- Pantry and recipe data: Ingredient names, quantities, expiry dates, recipes, and meal plans you create within the app. This data is stored on your device and synced via iCloud.
- Receipt text: When you scan a grocery receipt, the raw text extracted by your device's camera is sent to our secure backend server for AI processing. We do not store receipt images.
- Recipe content: When you import a recipe by URL or text, the content is sent to our backend server for AI processing.
- Usage data: Basic logs of AI feature usage (receipt scans, recipe imports, meal suggestions) for rate limiting and service improvement. These logs do not contain the content of your requests.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Kitchen Provision app
- To process grocery receipts and recipe imports using AI
- To generate meal suggestions based on your pantry inventory
- To verify your subscription status and enforce usage limits
- To respond to your support requests
3. AI Processing
Kitchen Provision uses the Claude AI API (provided by Anthropic, PBC) to process receipt text, recipe content, and pantry data for meal suggestions. When you use AI features:
- Receipt text and recipe content is transmitted to our backend server over an encrypted HTTPS connection
- Our backend server forwards this content to the Claude API for processing
- Processed results are returned to your device and stored locally
- We do not permanently store the raw text of your receipts or recipes on our servers beyond the duration of processing

4. iCloud Sync
Your pantry, recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists are synced across your Apple devices using iCloud (CloudKit). This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
5. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect or store receipt images or photographs
- We do not collect precise location data
- We do not share your data with advertisers
- We do not sell your personal information to any third party
- We do not use your data to train AI models
6. Data Retention
Account data (your Apple user ID and associated session tokens) is retained for as long as you have an active account. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at hello@kitchenprovision.com.
Your pantry, recipe, and meal plan data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account. Deleting the app removes local data. To remove iCloud data, use the "Clear" options in the app's Settings screen.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption
- Session tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain
- We use Sign in with Apple for authentication — we never see or store your Apple ID password
- Our backend servers are hosted on Fly.io with industry-standard security practices
8. Children's Privacy
Kitchen Provision is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at hello@kitchenprovision.com.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
